Paediatric Medicine (Baby & Children)
Paediatric medicine deals with the medical care and health of infants, children and teens from birth to the age of 18. The specialist that deals with paediatric health is called paediatrician. This expert manages the mental, physical and emotional health of your child at every stage of his/her development.
When Do You Need to Call a Paediatrician?
Sometimes, it’s hard to tell how sick your infant is. Although a trip to the hospital isn’t needed for a simple cough, cold, diarrhoea or constipation, your child needs to see a paediatrician if he/she experiences any of the following symptoms:
- Diarrhoea with vomiting
- Any cold or cough that doesn’t subside in several days, or a cough that gets worse every day accompanied by fever
- Rashes, especially if there’s fever
- Cuts that requires to be stitched
- Pain in the ear with fever and/or vomiting, and disabling your child from drinking or sleeping
- Severe sore throat
- Drainage from the ear
- Persistent or sharp pains in the stomach
- Blood in urine
- Bloody diarrhoea
- Limping, not able to move an arm or a leg
- Rectal temperature of 38oC (or higher) in babies younger than two months
Always feel free to call a paediatrician, even if it’s for minor things like daily medicines, minor injuries and illnesses. They’d be happy to help you make your child better.
